When a card is used, the transaction follows a lifecycle before funds are permanently deducted.
The following statuses may appear:
Pending (Authorization Hold)
When a card is used online or in-store, the merchant requests an authorization to confirm the card is valid and has sufficient funds. If approved, the amount is placed on temporary hold. The transaction will appear as Pending until it is finalized.
Completed (Settled)
Once the merchant submits the final clearing record (usually within a few days), the held amount is converted into a permanent deduction. The transaction status is updated to Completed or Settled.
Declined
The transaction was rejected in real time. No funds are held or deducted.
Reversed / Refunded
A previously pending or settled transaction was cancelled or refunded. The funds are credited back to the available balance.
