Declined Transactions

Modified on Wed, 11 Mar at 2:46 PM

A transaction may be declined due to balance restrictions, security controls, or program rules.

Common reasons include:

  • Insufficient Funds
The available balance is not enough to cover the transaction amount.

  • Incorrect PIN or Card Details
An incorrect PIN was entered at a terminal, or the wrong expiry date or CVV was provided for an online transaction. Multiple incorrect PIN attempts may temporarily block the card for security.

  • Spending Limits Exceeded
The transaction exceeds configured limits, such as daily, monthly, or per-transaction caps.

  • Card Status Restrictions
The card is frozen (temporarily blocked), permanently closed, inactive, or not yet activated.

  • Restricted Merchants (Blacklisting)
Transactions at certain merchant categories may be blocked due to compliance or program policies (e.g. gambling, government lotteries, or other restricted MCCs).

If needed, transaction logs and decline reason codes can be reviewed via API or the management dashboard for further troubleshooting.
